8th Grade English
Students will focus on grammar, spelling, punctuation, and essay writing. Students will write for a variety of audiences and purposes including, but not limited to, the following styles: narrative, persuasive, informative, letter writing, and poetry.
Students will participate in a Proposal Unit second semester, which includes planning for a community service day.
Extended Response is taught and practiced throughout the year to prepare for ISATs. Extended Response requires students to respond to a reading passage based on a provided prompt. Copies of the Extended Response handouts and format are provided below.

NO NEW SPELLING
- Students have new spelling words at the beginning of each week.
- Weekly Assignments:
Monday: 5x each
Wednesday: 10 sentences
- Spelling post-tests are taken on Fridays and students have the opportunity to earn 2 extra credit points each week by spelling all 10 words (including bonus words) correctly.
